CAOG Outreach Ministries

Inter-Faith Council for Social Service:

  • CAOG partnerships with IFC to help the families of Homestart. IFC coordinates services with other agencies for at-risk families in the community.

Homestart:

  • Homestart provides emergency, short and longer-term services to 50 homeless women and children at a time. CAOG has reached out to the mothers and children at Homestart with a number of programs.
  • Members of CAOG made personal hygiene kits for families there by collecting items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, washcloths, soap, shampoo, deodorant, combs, q-tips, etc.
  • The Women’s Ministry has sponsored several activities for the families. These have included a spaghetti dinner at Homestart, a game night and a movie night for mothers and babysitting services.
  • One of CAOG members owns the Cut Above Barber Shop in Chapel Hill.  He and his staff provided free “Back To School Hair Cuts” for children and their mothers.  CAOG also provided “Back to School” supplies for school age children and a cookout to celebration the end of the summer vacation.

Orange County Department of Social Services:

  • CAOG has worked with The Orange County Department of Social Services for that past 3 years to helping families during the holidays. Last year, through the combined efforts of churches, schools, individuals, businesses and community groups, the county’s holiday program assisted more than 3,500 children. This year, the agency anticipates that number to increase to almost 5,000 children. All of these children live in Orange County
  • CAOG has provided Thanksgiving Food Boxes and Angel Tree gifts for families in need.

Shared Learning Association of Chapel Hill

  • Shared Learning is a voluntary association of persons living in or near Chapel Hill, NC, who wish to continue learning by attending classes designed and conducted by fellow members, sometimes former professors or teachers, as well as programs given by invited speakers.

In 2010 Shared Learning need a new home, CAOG open its doors and has allowed Shared Learning to use the church for their classes and programs.  We grateful to share our church with this wonderful group of adults in our community.
